Assimilation in Understanding of Background

Assimilation is the process of moving into America and assimilating into the culture, and how that looks along with your own background. Hispanic Americans did not strip their own culture when entering this society, and it is known that they contain many of their own Spanish languages. This is definitely different than African Americans who changed more quickly towards American culture. Language assimilation is strong for Latinos in the fact that they speak mostly Spanish as their first language. But, it is not known that most Latinos prefer English and support its usage.

Mexican Americans are slow to the cultural assimilation of proximity to origin society because they are so close and decidedly go back and forth between the two cultures. Residential concentration is specific towards Latinos because they are so family originated which can lead to a slow assimilation as well. I think this is contrasted to other groups because Latinos are known for sticking close to home. Asians Americans are similar to this in the fact that they are most heavily concentrated in certain states, and stick to those demographics. Although, Korean populations are growing, and so is Vietnamese.

Contrastingly, Japanese Americans are culturally assimilating slowly because they are coming into America slowly. Some different aspects that can slow cultural assimilation is income, whether they get higher or lower income chooses whether they invest or not. Another aspect is occupation, whether they are accepted at their job, or also education. This is difficult because in America, the more education you get, the better chance you have of succeeding and getting a job.

Chinese Americans are moving more rapidly than others in assimilation because they are adapting to the language change. This is different than the Japanese Americans who were separate for about 4 generations before they finally started to assimilate and learn about the American culture. All the cultures assimilated differently to the United States based on their ethnicities and backgrounds.
